Latest UpdateThe construction of New Bridge Station 8 is complete and the station took its first call in June of this year. The Foundation for Lake Anna Emergency Services provided $100,000 to Louisa County to get this entire process started and an additional $250,000 towards a new ambulance, supplies and equipment. This, of course, was due to the generosity of the Lake Anna community as well as grants from REC The Power of Change and the BAMA Works Fund of the Dave Matthews Band. You can see the announcement from Louisa County HERE. Pat Gallagher of the Foundation tells me that currently the Foundation is "raising funds to replace the County’s rescue boat. The current boat is a 2008 Kenner (Mako) that was converted from fishing boat to a rescue boat. The County wants to upgrade to an actual rescue boat with locking compartments for EMS and other equipment, a landing craft bow, a dive door and a Davit lifting arm. As with the current boat, this boat will be operated by New Bridge Station 8 crew and on the water, ready to respond 365 days a year." PAST ACTIVITIESS A Ground Breaking ceremony was held on December 27th for what has become the New Bridge Fire and Rescue Station. The affair was attended by government dignitaries, representatives of the Foundation for Lake Anna Emergency Services and interested citizens. The station at 1856 New Bridge Road (The Bark Park location) is anticipated to be completed summer of 2022. Spearheaded by Louisa County Mineral District Supervisor Duane Adams and Fire/EMS Chief Robert Dubé, the county Board of Supervisors approved an expansion of the project to include fire protection services in addition to the previous rescue/EMT building design. The facility will now be constructed to house fire trucks along with ambulance units, bringing the plan back to the original 2016 concept for the much needed facility. The non-profit Foundation for Lake Anna Emergency Services has now raised $190,000 from generous donations by the Lake Anna community. $100,000 “seed funding” was granted to Louisa County in June 2021 to jump-start project construction. Fundraising continues targeted to help with additional costs of building equipment, supplies, personnel gear, furniture, etc. for the new station, and to supplement and replace equipment to be donated by Mineral Volunteer Fire Department and Louisa County Fire/EMS. Look below for information on how you can donate. HIstory of the New Bridge Rescue EMS Station! The Louisa County Board of Supervisors approved $800,000 in the 2020-2021 Fiscal Year Budget and Capital Improvement Plan for construction of the New Bridge Rescue Station at the County-owned BarkPark location on New Bridge Road (Route 208) near the Food Lion Shopping Center at Lake Anna. The expressed understanding was that the first $100,000 of “seed money” would be raised from the local community before budget funds would be appropriated. The community rose to the occasion and raised the $100,000, and the county revised the project to include both Fire and Rescue. In November 2021 the Board of Supervisors approved an additional $600,000 bringing the total funding for construction to $1.5M. Why Is the community donating? In the past, construction of Fire and/or Rescue EMS stations was funded totally by the citizens of local communities via donations and fundraising events, rather than by Louisa County. With this in mind, a non-profit foundation was established, the Foundation for Lake Anna Emergency Services, and a commitment made for $100,000 of the cost to be raised by citizens and businesses. This commitment helped to ensure the New Bridge Rescue Station inclusion in the budget. Once the New Bridge Fire and Rescue Station has been been built (completion by summer 2022 is anticipated), additional funds will be required for firefighting and rescue equipment. The Foundation for Lake Anna Emergency Services is seeking additional donations to purchase equipment to supplement and replace equipment being donated by Mineral Volunteer Fire Department.
